Health & Human Services
The mission of the Department of Health & Human Services ("Department") is to assess and implement various health care programs (Diabetes Program, Community Health Representatives, Social Services, and Healthy Kids Initiative) in a well-coordinated and collaborative manner that will enhance educational awareness, disease prevention, and healthy behavioral changes. The primary goal of the Department is to provide comprehensive health care awareness that will target multiple dimensions of health such as physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of Pueblo members of all ages.
Diabetes Prevention Program
The Diabetes Prevention program office promotes prevention education and diabetes self-management education, maintains data on the identified diabetic population within the community measures diabetes care outcomes, and works with outside entities to meet community health needs and improves services.
Healthy Kids
The Healthy Kids program office promotes community health by implementing alcohol, drug, and tobacco prevention programs focusing on youth. The Healthy Kids program office shall lead the community's health council initiatives.
Community Health Representative ("CHR") Program
The CHR program office provides management to improve and maintain the delivery systems for general health care, gerontological health care, maternal and child health, and environmental health. The CHR program office shall coordinate with health resource agencies to assure the provision of necessary health care services to Pueblo members.
Indian Child Welfare Act Program ("ICWA")
The ICWA program office manages the Pueblo's child welfare system including working toward protecting the children of the Pueblo from child abuse, neglect, and the separation of families through collaborative work with families. The ICWA program office shall provide a central contact point for families seeking assistance in temporary and permanent placement of children.
